According to the Canadian Bureau for International Education, Canada is now host to over 265,000 international students, making up 6.5% of Canada’s postsecondary education population. Their mere presence has led to the creation of more than 83,000 jobs and generated more than $291M in revenue for the Canadian government. This multimedia project will go behind the statistics and facts to investigate not only what brought people from over 173 nationalities here, to the world’s 7th most popular education destination but why they chose Canada, what they left behind in their home countries and what sacrifices, monetary or otherwise, they made to come to the great, white north. Through interviews, pictures and videos, it will tell the “origin stories” of international students that have come to call Canada home, even temporarily.
